in Memory of Chip Lary from Tips from Chip

I decided to step out of blog retirement briefly to express my sadness at the passing of blog friend Chip Lary from Tips from Chip. I don't know the details surrounding his death, except he recently wrote of surgery and removal of his gallbladder. Two family members commented on his site that he passed away on April 21, 2016.

Chip worked as a Project Manager. In his free time he was a film buff and completist, working his way through various film lists, which he wrote about on his site. He was a frequent visitor to my blog and other film blogs and expressed a keen interest in other people's writing. If you asked him a question he provided insightful answers. He also had a good sense of humor.

As far as I know he was not yet 50 years old, so he died far too young. Very sad to lose someone I considered a friend. Chip's death affected me deeply because I had interacted with him for several years. The blogosphere will not be the same without him. Chip will be missed by family and friends.

  3. Terrible, terrible news.
I have a comment from him just one day prior to his death. Crazy that the last I heard from him was over a silly movie.

Thank you so much for writing about Chip. He was my "baby" brother and was only 51 years old. We don't know if there were any extenuating circumstances to his surgery but he had a heart attack on his way home from work on the 21st. I remember my older sister and I being so very excited that we had a baby brother when he was born. This just isn't right that I have had to make his funeral arrangements and will be burying him in the cemetery up to Monson, ME on the 21st of May. We have requested the Medical Examiner's report on his death. Thank you one and all for you comments about Chip. He certainly did like to watch and critique movies. We will miss him terribly

  12. @Lynette Lary Eastman: You're very welcome. It must be terrible to lose a brother. Heart attacks are very cruel when they take people from us. I am so sorry that Chip is no longer here and I think about him every day. The blogosphere community will miss his friendship and enthusiasm for movies.

  20. I was looking for an update on his blog that didn't come. I had a feeling. Googled and found out Chip is no longer with us. Since two years we had email contact. I would give him hard to find european movies and he would give me his knowledge on how to get some very hard to find movies as well. He also made a list of 1001 TV Series just for me. I liked having that contact with Chip. Another human also crazy about movies and lists. I will miss him and my sincere condoleances go out to all of his family and friends. 51 years. I'm 50. That's just way to soon. For the rest of my life I will probably think of Chip when the new TSPDT list comes out.
