2014 summer playlist

I'm taking a break from the blogosphere for most of July, just so you know! In the meantime, enjoy this summer playlist I put together. There are many ways of doing such a list, I decided to only go with new music:

Problem (feat. Iggy Azalea) by Ariana Grande  (Has been called the song of the summer. hmm, is it?)

Bullit by Watermät

Do It Again by Röyksopp & Robyn

Boom Clap by Charli XCX (From The Fault In Our Stars soundtrack)

Gimme Something Good by Ryan Adams

Feels Like Summer by Panama Wedding

Hey Now (Tensnake Remix) by London Grammar

Salad Days by Mac Demarco

You're Mine (Eternal) by Mariah Carey

Avant Gardener by Courtney Barnett

Jealous (I Ain't With It) by Chromeo

Get Her Back by Robin Thicke (Maybe will grow on me over the summer? Not as good as his 2013 hit Blurred Lines)

Forgiveness by St. Lucia

NRG by Duck Sauce (From 22 Jump Street soundtrack)
Duck Sauce previously released the super catchy Barbra Streisand

Summer Noon by Tweedy

Which music are you listening to during summer? Any of these? Or something else that caught your attention?

  1. I usually don't listen to mainstream pop but I do like Ariana Grande and Iggy Azalea.

    1. @thevoid99: I like Problem by Ariana Grande as well. Not all of the tracks here I’d label mainstream, Mac Demarco’s and Ryan Adams’ music I would describe as alternative/indie

  2. Have a great break! I've listened to some by Lana Del Ray and I think the only song I kind of liked is Brooklyn Baby :/ Maybe it will grow on me? Hmm

    1. @Andina: Thank you, have a great summer yourself! Her album Born To Die was catchier. My experience is that Lana Del Rey’s new album takes a bit of time to appreciate.

  3. Eric @ The Warning Sign: I like these tracks I shared, but yeah, this year doesn’t quite have a massive hit like last summer. Of course there’s “Happy” by Pharrell.
“Seasons (Waiting on You)” by Future Islands has gotten quite a lot of love in 2014, partly thanks to the singers eccentric performance on Letterman.

    I’ll check out the link.

  4. I haven't been listening to anything new. Need to do something about that, I think!

    Enjoy your break, Chris!

    1. @Jaina: Thank you, and enjoy the music!

I am still sort of on a break, though I did just temporarily return from hiatus by posting my top 10 Bruce Springsteen songs.

  5. Nice list. I really like that Charli XCX song. I'd have to say "Seasons (Waiting on You)" is my favorite of the summer. I also like Sia's "Chandelier."

Couple others that come to my head at the moment:

    Chrissie Hynde - "Dark Sunglasses"
Jonsi - "Where No One Goes" (How To Train Your Dragon soundtrack)
    Gold-Bears - Yeah, Tonight

  6. Cool list - I'm definitely giving all these a listen this evening. Have you listened to Lana Del Rey's new album? I love it, it's quite dark but very poetic.

    1. @Mette: Enjoy the playlist! I just added Summer Noon from Boyhood soundtrack.
I prefer Lana’s previous album Born To Die, which I consider a classic. However I do really like Ultraviolence, yes it is quite dark and film noir-ish. I wrote about her new album here:

  7. I need to check some of these out, but I love "Boom Clap," "Problem," and "Do It Again." Some other tracks I've been listening to during the summer include "Black Widow" by Iggy Azalea ft. Rita Ora, "Rave" by Blondie, "Lost Stars" (from Begin Again) by Adam Levine, and "Latch" by Disclosure ft. Sam Smith (though it's from last year).

  8. I finally checked out that Future Islands performance tonight. I'm near speechless. On one hand, I couldn't stop laughing, but on the other I was truly impressed with the frontman's passion for his music. That's how you make a name for yourselves!

  9. Eric @ The Warning Sign: He’s like a caged animal on Letterman, haha :)

  10. Nice list! Boom Clap really resonates with me as a big summer song; maybe for its connection to The Fault in Our Stars since that was the movie I look forward to the most in June. :)
